Description
This is the newest of my nebula experiments. It was done on two layers in 16 hours on a 6000x600px document without any filters at all. The stars were made using filters, but the creation of the star pallet was a separate project. 
I didn't meet my expectations with this one. Well, if you succeed in an experimental piece you should probably reevaluate your expectations, don't you think so? Anyway, this was a great learning experience and I can't wait to apply what I have learned here to future pieces.

I think the edge of the nebula need to be much softer, fluffier, and wispier
The nebula has a great texture, and it would look good if you used that smudging technique on the edges.
The lighting is good too, tho I'm not too sure where the light source is. Looks like it should be in the middle of the big curve where there are no little stars. Maybe put a big star right in the middle there and it would give the piece more depth.
Anyway, nice try, you'll get better as you go along (as you've said, you learnt lots in doing this piece), but not a bad piece at all
